The Strategic Business Division of Sahaj is, presently, focusing on providing technology based support and solutions to various government programmes and projects along with implementing the various aspects of social sector programmes conceptualized and initiated by the central as well as the state governments in the country.
Sahaj was successful in securing two very prestigious projects from Government of India: Aadhaar project being steered by Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), Planning Commission, Government of India, and National Population Register (NPR) project being steered by Registrar General and Census Commissioner of India, Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India.
UIDAI (Aadhar) has identified certain banks and Government agencies as registrars for collecting information on the people under the Aadhaar project. Two of such registrars viz., Central Bank of India (CBI) and Bank of India (BOI) have selected SREI Infrastructure Finance Limited (SIFL) as their Empanelled Enrolment Agency for enrolling the citizens for Aadhaar. SREI Infrastructure Finance Limited through the Other Strategic Business Division is undertaking the demographic and biometric data capture of residents. The department has successfully enrolled more than 6.88 lakh citizens in the states of Tamil Nadu, Odisha and Uttar Pradesh in the phase I of the project. Sahaj has again been engaged by both these banks for the phase II of the project, and is currently working in the states of Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Haryana, Kerala and Punjab.
The Government of India initiated the creation of National Population Register (NPR) by collecting specific information of all usual residents in the country during the House listing and Housing Census phase of Census 2011 during April 2010 to September 2010. The objective of creation of NPR is to help in better utilization and implementation of the benefits and services under the government schemes, improve planning, improve security and prevent identity fraud.
Implementing agency of the NPR Project, National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT) selected SIFL for undertaking the NPR Project activities in the identified districts of Bihar, Assam and Uttar Pradesh. SIFL implemented the project through this department and successfully digitized more than 6.09 crore data in the three states.
Sahaj also ventured into the Skill development & Placement in the financial year 2010-11. The starting point for Sahaj to enter this area was the data issued by the office of Advisor to the Prime Minister on Skill development and the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) which indicated that unless the skill deficit of the order of 500 million is plugged by 2022, India would never be able to get back on the path of high growth rate. The Planning Commission has reinforced the view that skill deficit is likely to pose the biggest threat to India’s growth in the coming years and has suggested that the gap can be bridged only by a collaborative effort of the Government as well as the corporate world. As a result, the Government has been on the lookout for potential partners to deliver their subsidy based as well as skill based skill development programme on a PPP mode. This vertical is to skill and place nearly a million of poor youth over a period of ten years and is committed to provide a strong and systematic structure of training & placement.
In just less than two years, this division of Sahaj is at the 8th position in the country. It also received the best Innovation award for the skill development business initiated. More than 8,000 rural, BPL candidates have been trained in blue collar trades and placed.
